Mission and aims:
The iMedia and Computer Science Department of John Kyrle High School is dedicated to preparing students for a rapidly changing world, by developing each student with knowledge, skills and experiences in a fun, interactive and motivating way! Through well planned lessons and curriculum. The team of enthusiastic and committed staff aim to deliver high-quality, student-centred lessons that support growth in an ever-changing world.
What do we offer and why? Resilience, problem-solving, and critical/logical thinking. These are skills that are essential if we are to grow and develop. The iMedia and Computer Science Department are delighted to be able to offer a wide variety of topics which focus on building these key skills.

Key Stage 5
A-Level Computer Science
This Computer Science course allows students to develop their understanding further in the core principles of Computer Science. With the developmental understanding of real-world systems to a independent programming project. A-Level students will learn technical understanding to analyse and solve coding problems using computational thinking. Along with key areas of advance programming and theory.
Exam Board: OCR
Subject: A-Level Computer Science H446
How will I be assessed?
Exam: 80% and sat at the end of Year 13 based on 2 papers worth 40% each.
Coursework: 1 x Project based coursework (worth 20%), completed in Y13

BTEC IT
This BTEC course is a practical and hands on course that has been designed for students to discover a wide range of different topic areas. This course has been development with 2 Exams and 2 Coursework’s each focusing on a key area of IT. This practical subject allows students to immerse themselves into the greater world of IT, which allows them to get experience of employment in different sectors of the computing world.

Subject: Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Information Technology
How will I be assessed?
Exams: 2xUnits. Sat in year 13 based on 2 units – Information Technology Systems and Creating Systems to Manage Information (Databases)
Coursework: 2xUnits. Completed in year 12 based on 2 units – Using social media in Business and Website Development.
