School Transport post 16

Unfortunately when a child reaches sixth form, they are no longer entitled to free school transport.

We encourage students to walk or cycle to school wherever possible, as this is best for their mental and physical wellbeing, as well as being better for the environment.  To support students to do this we have a large, purpose built cycle shelter with CCTV security as well as two entrance/exit gates to the school site.  If students are cycling then we strongly encourage the use of high-visibility clothing and a cycle helmet.

If walking or cycling is not possible, we encourage bus travel. This is preferred to decrease congestion, minimise pollution and carbon emissions as well as disruption to our neighbours.  Details about bus travel can be found below.

Finally, where car transport is unavoidable, we would ask that parents share cars where possible and are considerate of local residents.  Cars should not stop in the yellow-boxed area at the front of school or enter the school site (unless to collect a student who is unwell or who has movement limitations).

For students who wish to travel by bus there are three options: 1) buses run by Herefordshire Council, 2) buses contracted by JKHS and 3) public (service) buses.  Details of each can be found below.

Herefordshire Council Buses

If you were a previous traveller on Herefordshire Council transport and wish to continue using this service whilst at JKHS sixth form, please ensure you apply for your seat in plenty of time via Herefordshire Council. The current cost for 2024-25 is £1000 per post-16 traveller.

For additional information and how to apply, please visit the Herefordshire Council link Post 16 School and college transport

If you have any questions regarding the school transport provision, you can also contact the council department via schooltransport@herefordshire.gov.uk

JKHS Contracted Buses

JKHS contracts external transport providers to run five bus services, three that serve the Forest of Dean and two that serve the Little Dewchurch/Much Dewchurch area.

Tickets for these services are available via our partner ShuttleID and are payable via monthly direct debit. Students show a QR code when boarding the bus which the driver scans, this allows parents to check valid tickets as well as providing boarding notifications and tracking information for parents.
